The Sydney tar pond might be getting a bit more attention in the near future. Residence surrounding the area have been given permission by the Supreme Court to file a class action suit against the government.The problem with this class action suit is that not everyone that was affected by the tar ponds will be able to participate in the suit.

Hundreds of thousands of tones of raw sewage and other abysmal chemicals make up the soup that is the sydney tar ponds. Hopefully something will come of this class action suit! Residence in the area have dealt with this problem for far too long.

Most, if not all of you have heard your fair share of news related to the BP oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. However you may not know how this will effect you in the Maritimes. The problem is that no one knows the extent of impact the oil spill will have on the Maritimes.

What needs to happen is a shift in oil dependency! There are alternative form of energy collection that would not have such high risks associated with it. It’s time for the Maritimes and the rest of Canada to put a significant amount of money behind alternative energy.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to writing so bare with me. I have already addressed the reasons behind making MaritimeBreeze.com, however I have not said what I plan to do with this blog. I will be using this blog to share my thoughts about environmental initiatives happening in the Maritimes. I also hope to share some pictures that I have taken that relate to my posts.

MaritimeBreeze.com was started for several reasons. April 2009 after signing up for a twitter account I decided to make the website to fill the url spot in mytwitter profile. The other reasons are as follows;

I’ve wanted to create a website for some time now and on January 30th,2009 I developed a temporary medical  condition which made it impossible for me to drive a car and I was unable to do the normal things I did during a normal day. I decided to make the best outof a bad situation. I continued to go to school to finish myundergraduate degree in Marketing at Saint Mary’s University. I was unable to attend a fairamount of classes since I was unable to drive and I was not sure Icould count on my body to get me back and forth from the university bypublic transit.

Moving on… April I decided I was tired of sitting on the couchdoing nothing but school work, watching TV, playing video games andworking (when I could). I have always been interested in theenvironment but did not think there was much I could do myself to helpwith its massive problems. Then I decided why not make awebsite dedicated to the environment in the Maritimes ( Nova Scotia,New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island). I was born in Miramichi, NewBrunswick and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2000. I have always hada soft spot for Prince Edward Island and this is why I chose theMaritimes as the focus for my site.

Since the start of the site I have had a huge amount of support from individuals and companies. I hope that I can continue to grow the site and find new ways to keep the public engaged. I especially hope that this site encourages people to see the greener side of the Maritimes.

After 6 months dealing with this illness I completely recovered!
